Have A Spring Getaway On Any Budget

By Adriana Noton

Buds are showing on flowers and trees, the sun has warmed up the days, and the need to get away from home is strong. Whether you want to swish and schuss down snow covered mountains or bask in the sun the idea is the same: taking a spring getaway from your routine for a much deserved break.

Hot and Dry

Death Valley National Park in California may not be what you think of for your ideal vacation. But then you haven't seen it in full bloom with wildflowers. This under appreciated park also has ghost towns aching for visitors: mountains and open spaces with unexplored crevices waiting for hikers to explore; and rolling sand dunes containing themselves until the right moment to take you for your first sand surfing experience. The scorching summer temperatures and frigid winter time make spring the ideal time to visit this 3.3 million acre park.

An Island

Santa Catalina Island was once the popular hot spot during the Hollywood golden era. The beautiful scenery found on its seventy five square miles rarely sees a highway. This is because in Avalon, its main city, people opt for driving their golf carts around instead of cars. Surrounding the island is a divers paradise just waiting to be discovered from behind your scuba mask.

Tune in to some Tunes

New Orleans is know for its chaotic, soulful, and colorful rhythm. You understand why when you remember is it the birthplace of jazz. For ten days every spring musical acts come here from around the world to celebrate with a Jazz Festival. While enjoying the soothing Jazz you could taste the spicy Louisiana Cuisine exploding in your mouth.

Snow Schussing

If your spring getaway veers more towards snow and those activities consider Whistler, British Columbia, the host of the 2010 winter Olympics. Boasting over eight thousand acres of prime skiing land you are sure to find a trail or Alpine bowl to satisfy your adventurous side. The array of events, shops, nightlife, and restaurants will easily fill any down time you have.

History

Off the coast of North Carolina is a set of barrier islands called the outer banks. This is the home of Roanoke Island, the first settlement. Absorb yourself in history as you visit a Native American longhouse, experience life on a replica of a merchant vessel, or participate in the daily routine at the settlement with the actors who reenact life at that time.

Don't Leave Home

It is easy to overlook unique and special spots in our local area as we rush about our daily lives. With a little research on the internet or asking friends and neighbors about their vacations you are sure to find local spots that you did not know about. It is an easy task to visit one new park, restaurant, or quaint hidden area every day. The best part is you can come home to your own comfortable bed every night.

Whether you travel a long distance, a short distance, or not at all you will give your mind a break and relax. Consider mountain springs resort for example.
